Projects being Implemented in Meru

There are two projects being implemented currently;

1. PROJECT NAME GLOBAL FUND ROUND 7 PROJECT (NON-GOVERNMENTAL COMPONENT)
PROJECT TITLE INCREASING ACCESS TO COUNSELING AND TESTING TO YOUTH IN KENYA
DONOR GLOBAL FUND
SITE MERU
GOALS OF THE PROJECT
  1. Improve the HIV infection indicators through:
  2. Increasing counseling and testing in the community through carrying out of Community based counseling and testing activities
  3. Establish and support 18 youth groups with a membership of 30 young people aged between 15-24years in Meru through carrying out youth informed and evidence based B.C.C activities for the groups on a monthly basis for 18 months in the first phase and 3 years in the second phase
PARTNERSHIPS
  1. MOH (DASCO and DMLT).
  2. Churches i.e. MCK
  3. Local administration
  4. CHVs in the organization's CBD program
ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR(N.B these are achievements for phase one. Contracting for phase two finalized.
  1. 41 Community based counseling and testing events held
  2. 4,648 people of age 15-55 years counseled and tested for HIV and received test
  3. 18 youth groups formed and maintained
  4. 540 young people of age 15-24 years reached with HIV/AIDS information to increase their risk perception in the community and promote behavior change

2. PROJECT NAME Gender Based Violence Project
PROJECT TITLE Increasing access to comprehensive SRH services including Safe Abortion and GBV support services in urban and peri-urban areas of Meru district

GOALS OF THE PROJECT

STRATEGY 1

  1. To improve capacity of 10 service delivery staff to provide rights-based
  2. Comprehensive and integrated youth friendly SGBV services in Meru to reach 20 female clients aged 15-19 for CAC/PAC and short term contraceptives
  3. 30 Cients aged 20-49 for CAC/PAC and long term contraceptives 4. 50 female and male clients over age of 8 years for GBV services, counseling, STI management, Post exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and referral for legal aid per month

STRATEGY 2
To enhance 7 Peer Youth Educators (PYEs) skills to provide SGBV support services to reach 200 youth every two months
