The Eldoret Youth Centre was started in the year 2000, with the aim of addressing Adolescent, Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) issues affecting the youths within Eldoret town and its environs. It is housed by the Family Health Options Kenya (FHOK)
Objectives
- Eldoret Youth Centre endeavours to provide reproductivehealth information and counseling to the youth aged 10 to 24 years who are not yet sexually active in order to assist them to delay the onset of sexual activity.
- Eldoret youth Centre provides reproductive health information and services to the youth aged 10 to 24 years who are sexually active to assist them to prevent and thus reduce the incidence of reproductive health (RH) related problems.
- Eldoret youth Centre endeavours to capacity build young people so as to empower and equip them with life skills and knowledge essential to address issues and challenges facing the youth in our society
- Influence public opinion and convince policy makers of the need to formulate and adopt youth policies and programmes to promote access to RH information and services.
- Advocate for gender equity and equality and eradication of harmful practices.
- Improve the social economic status of young Kenyan men and women.
Target Population
The Eldoret Youth Centre mainly targets the young people within Eldoret town and its environs. The term "young people" encompasses a number of different groups such as early adolescents (10-15), late adolescents (16-19), young adults (20-25), urban and rural youth, those in school and out of school, married and unmarried, those who engage in sexual relations and those who do not. All these essentially form our priority target population. The geographical area of operation is demarcated into Four Divisions namely; Turbo, Kapsaret, Kapsoya and Kesses Divisions.
