Kisumu Youth Option was started in the year 2001 after Nairobi, Mombassa, Eldoret and Nakuru. From a handful of about 10 volunteer peer youth educators, the project has continued to recruit volunteers to assist various project. They (PYEs) have benefited by getting jobs from a number of organization due to their active involvement in the Youth project. More tan 1000 youths have at some point worked with the youth centre
The centre has had a number of previous projects i.e. HAPAC funded by APHIA , CHIC (community health information centre) by WIRED international, RHAY (reproductive health advocacy for youth), JTF, AED, UNFPA and IPPF. All these projects focused on addressing the reproductive wellbeing of the youth.

Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of youth and sports, Kenya Red Cross Society, Tuungane youth project, Tenteleni Charity organization (UK), municipal council of Kisumu and several CBO and FBO working closely with the youth. Currently the centre is addressing HIV/AIDs matters within Kisumu and its environs the project is funded by GLOBAL FUND ROUND7.
